Ripley is located one hour
east of Cincinnati, a beautiful drive along the riverbank on Highway 52, a
National Scenic Byway.
Welcome...
to the historic and scenic village
of Ripley, Ohio and to The Signal House Bed and Breakfast - a historic
home with rooms overlooking the Ohio River. Legends tell of its involvement in
the "Underground Railroad". A lantern from a skylight in the attic
signaled
Rev. John Rankin that the waterfront was safe to transport slaves to
freedom. Legends also tell of two Civil War officers who lived in this house.
Located in Brown County, known for its
covered bridges, we opened in 1989 and have been a bed and breakfast for 19 years.
Built in the 1830s, our
Greek Italianate style home features ornate plaster molding which surround the
twelve-foot ceilings, enhancing the charm of the twin parlors. It is uniquely
furnished with an air of yesteryear. You will discover splendid views of the Ohio
River from our two spacious guest rooms. View the rolling hills and spectacular
sunsets, while anticipating a glimpse of a passing paddle wheeler, comin' round
the bend. Enjoy a game of croquet, a relaxing stroll by the flower garden, or
select a rocking chair on one of the three porches where you can watch the river
and friendly people pass by. In the fall and winter, enjoy parlor games such as
Skittles, card games or Scrabble by the twin fireplaces.
Within walking distance
are museums, restaurants and shops, including antiques and crafts. Imagine the
grand drama of the past while strolling through Ripley's 55 acre historical
district. View the many different types of architecture and the historic homes
in the village. The scenic Ohio River hosts fishing, boating, water and jet
skiing for the water sportsman. Marina pick-up is available upon request. Join the fun during the fourth weekend in August at the
Ohio
Tobacco Festival. Experience the old fashioned holiday spirit during the River
Village Christmas, the second weekend of December. Surrounding areas offer
unique towns, festivals, dramas, caves, vineyards, a winery, herb farms, covered bridges,
sternwheel regatta and lots of friendly people.
There's lots to do in
Ripley and the surrounding area, and we invite you to share our home and community and hope to see you
soon.|
